Winter is Coming…FAST.

Brian looked at the weather forecast this weekend and surprised me with the news that it is was going to hard freeze this week. We had so much work to do to get really quick to be able to prepare the animals and property for the sustained cold weather. Has it gotten cold and stayed cold where you live?

upcoming cold weather forecast for Prescott, WA.

Freezing temperatures in the forecast. But no snow.

Here are the tasks that we needed to accomplish pretty quickly to assure there was not damage to any of the equipment.

  • Weatherize the travel trailer.

  • Remove the irrigation from the pond. (This is how we water the lawn, garden and the meat chickens that are on that side of the property).

  • Close the windows in the chicken coop and check the heat lamp. We also put a blanket on the chain link fence that separates the chicken area from the feed room in the barn. Side note, this is the space that we have inherited for the chickens and we will hopefully be changing their location in the spring.

  • Weatherize the fire trailer pump. We forgot this pump last year and my husband had to replace pump parts in the spring so that we could use the pump.
